15 RESTAURANTS AND CAFES YOU CAN WORK FROM IN LAGOS

Being an entrepreneur or freelancer in Lagos can be hard, but what’s even harder is finding a place to work! There’s a very good possibility that you work from home. And, that can be both good and bad for business. For starters, you don’t have to worry about the dreaded daily commute to and from work so you can spend more time working. And, you get to stay in your pajamas all day working in a spot that you designed specifically to increase your productivity. Amazing, right?

On the other hand, it can get lonely sitting in your home all day. Other challenges include getting easily distracted and finding the motivation to get started since there’s no clock or boss doing that for you. Because of the pros and cons of working from home, every entrepreneur of freelancer needs to break-out from time-to-time to socialize and break-up the monotony.

Now, I’m not about to cough up loads of money renting a co-working space just yet, so I enjoy flexible work spots around Lagos where I can grab coffee and a snack or lunch and enjoy a few hours with a view or great ambience! Lagos has its fair share of nice coffee places and cafés, but not all of them are suitable for setting up shop with your laptop.

So here are my 15 favourite spots (with WIFI!) to get some work done.

Spot #1: Café Neo

1436 Sanusi Fafunwa Street, Victoria Island, Lagos

Café Neo is up there for me as it is the most welcoming to freelancers. With unique spaces, a quiet ambience, welcoming staff and the right price for your coffee, sandwiches and cakes, I always find myself working at Café Neo! I bring my own WIFI here though as sometimes I find their network service a bit slow.

Spot #2: Nuts About cakes

33 Fola Osibo Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lekki

Nuts about Cakes has to be the gem I’m so happy I found. You can literally spend the whole day working at their spot and you’ll even get to meet other entrepreneurs and freelancers. It’s like a co-working space but with the perfect Chai Latte! Their WIFI is fairly fast and the staff is very friendly. You should also try their pastas and paninis (thank me later!)

Spot #3: Brown’s Café

15 Oduduwa Crescent, GRA, Ikeja,  Lagos

For the days I find myself on the mainland, I stay at Brown’s Café while I wait for traffic to die down. Brown’s café is such a chic spot for business meetings but you can work there on your own too. It’s very quiet which I love and the ambience is almost perfect!

Spot #4: HSE Café

25 Babatope Bejide Cres, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos

If I’m being honest, the mac and cheese takes me to HSE Café every time! But apart from that, I can take my laptop with me and work there for a few hours as the space is also perfect for work. You have to be careful with your timing though as the place can sometimes be packed.

Spot #5: XO Boutique Bakery

48 Balarabe Musa Crescent, Victoria Island.
This café is a beautifully hidden spot for content creators, and freelancers. With Instagrammable spots everywhere, comfy seats and chic African themed décor, the XO Boutique Bakery has more to offer than its awesome cakes .

Spot #6: The Metaphor Lagos

78a Younis Bashorun Street, Victoria Island, Lagos

A new spot in Lagos that’s also work friendly. The space is a freelancers dream and I love how structurally beautiful the place is. The food is a bit expensive so visiting there every day is a bit of a stretch, but still, lovely space.

Spot #7: Sao Café

25 Prince Adelowo Adedeji St, Lekki Phase I, Lekki

Sao Café is a great mix of fun and work. You can spend a long time there and the food is also well priced. It can also get a bit busy here so early arrival is advised.

Spot #8: Art Café

282 Akin Olugbade St, Victoria Island, Lagos

A quaint retro café in VI. Come for the art and décor, stay for the peace and quiet. Amazing atmosphere , very good food and service! Best coffee in town and very friendly people ! Lovely Art and a very nice place to be !

Spot #9: Bogobiri House

South-West, 9 Maitama Sule St, Ikoyi, Lagos

Bogobiri houses a restaurant with artistic and rustic décor that is just amazing. Apart from Thursdays (when they have their open mic night), working there is great as its very quiet and the food is pretty good too. I also had to bring my own wifi here so note that.

Spot #10: Stranger Lagos

If you’re looking for a space with a different vibe, Stranger Lagos is it! Stranger Lagos is an alternative store but they have a little work space where you can sit and get work done. I love the space and vibe of the place.

Spot #11: La Pointe coffee shop

4A Akin Olugbade Street, Off Idowu Martins Street, Victoria Island

La Pointe has a quaint little cafe. The amazing thing is that you get see your coffee being brewed right behind the counter and this cafe stocks Starbucks as their house brew. This homely cafe is great for quick work day and offers a wide variety of gourmet food items in an intimate, warm space.

Spot #12: My Coffee Lagos Wings

Wings, 17A Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Victoria Island, Lagos

My Coffee Wings is particularly impressive. At My Coffee Wing, you can get probably one of the best views of Lagos against “the blue sky and lagoon melding into fascinating panorama”. The desert selection at My Coffee is extensive and the staff is very friendly. Looking for a new spot to work and grab an indulgent caramel macchiato? Here’s your place!

Spot #13: Hans & Rene Lennox Mall

Lennox Mall 2/3 Admiralty Way lekki Phase 1, Lekki, Eti-Osa, Lagos

A white spacious spot that sells ice cream, pastries and coffee, check! Hans & Rene’s space at the Lennox Mall is one of my top spots for work.

Spot #14: Choco Latte

38/40 Isaac John Street, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos

Situated on ground lobby floor of the Radisson Blu Hotel, Choco-Latte is comfortable chic workspace with excellent lighting inviting you to work and play. This lively coffee lounge offers fresh pastries, aperitifs and lattes which makes it an awesome stop for a coffee date in Ikeja.

Spot #15: Deli’s Coffee Shop

1291 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos

This bar/cafe is located above its founding grocery store, Delis Delicatessen on Akin Adesola in Victoria Island. It is a warm, small space with exciting coffee creations and a nice menu of salads, smoothies and sandwiches. It’s right on the main road and easy to find, the view might not be the greatest but the ambiance makes up for it.
