HOW TO INCORPORATE HEALTHY HABITS INTO YOUR TIGHT SCHEDULE.

The Fitfam movement is steadily gaining traction and a lot of people (including me) have joined the bandwagon. However, several people complain that their schedules are too tight and they find it difficult to go to the gym. If you're one of them, here are a few ways you can be Fitfam while you're busy:

1. Walk to work.

No I don't mean walk to work like living in Egbeda and walking to Ajah, lol. But walk to work like walking to the junction that is 10 minutes from your house to meet your Uber instead of telling him or her to come to your front door. Or walking 15 minutes to the estate gate instead of waiting for a bike. It could even be taking a brief 5 to 10 minutes walk in your neighbourhood before getting dressed and driving to work or school. Any method works really, just try to get some steps in. A good way to motivate yourself to walk more is to get a fitness app. There are so many good ones in the app stores that have pedometers that can track your steps. You can even set targets for how many steps you want to take per day. 5000 steps is a healthy start.

2. Take the stairs.

Wherever you have the chance to choose between the stairs and the elevator or escalator, take the stairs.

3. Pack fruits and veggies for lunch.

Instead of going to Iya Bola to eat amala or fufu for lunch, plan to skip it on some days and pack some fruits instead. You can prepare a bowl of fruits and veggie salad the night before; pineapples, apples, pawpaw, cucumber, watermelon, carrots and bananas are great options.

4. Remove chocolates

and biscuits from your

office drawer and your bag.

Yes. I know. Many of us are guilty but however tough it might seem, it is doable. Replace the unhealthy snacks in your bag and office drawer with healthier ones. Swap out the milky, sugary, chocolatey biscuits for the healthier granola bars, nuts, crackers and dark chocolate.

5. Get it yourself, don't send someone.

There are some times you might not be very busy but you just don't feel like getting up to get some paper for the printer or even a bottle of water. Instead, you send the office messenger or your colleague that is going in that direction. Try to get up and do it yourself, you need the occasional stretch.

6. Drink a lot of water.

This cannot be overemphasised. Consistent hydration is one of the bed rocks of a healthy lifestyle.

Have a lovely, healthy day!
