END OF YEAR AUDIT
It's the most wonderful time of the yeaaarrrrrrrr!
Welcome to December! The month of thanksgiving, reflection and audit. I'm pretty sure nobody had an uneventful year. Several things have happened but here you are, reading this article. At the beginning of the year, many of us had our list of resolutions while some decided to wing it and go with the flow of the year but they still had a bunch of things they wanted to achieve. To those that were able to check off everything on their list, bravo! Congratulations on how far you've come. I pray you're able to achieve much more than you did this year, next year.
Now, for other people, like me, that were not able to cross out everything on their lists, come closer, I need to share a few things with you:
1. Please be thankful for what you were able to achieve.
One of my goals this year was to lose some weight, which I did, but then I gained some of it back which is absolutely fine! I am thankful that I was able to lose some weight. I am not incapable of losing weight, I only need to put more effort into keeping it off.
You might not have been able to get your start up to earn millions this year but look at you earning many thousands. I'm sure there are many things on your list that you couldn't cross out but I'm also pretty sure you were able to cross out at least one, so be thankful for that one.
2. Take disappointments/setbacks in stride.
This life is not always sunflowers and roses. The roses are surrounded by thorns, but it doesn't take anything away from their beauty. You might have lost things, irreplaceable people, your business might have failed but sadly, there's no going back to change what has happened.
Take your time, reflect on what you've lost, mourn if need be but don't stay in that place, you have to get up and try again, forge ahead. There are still many good things in store for you.
3 Don't be too hard on yourself.
Many times we set goals for ourselves that are quite unrealistic but in the heat of the new year, new me craze, we psych ourselves into believing they're achievable. Some people are able to quickly adjust their goals and make them more achievable but some people get stuck somewhere in the middle trying so hard to achieve those goals and by the end of the year, they're beating themselves up for it. Please stop. Maybe you tried your best and it wasn't enough or you even gave up in the middle without re-strategizing, the wonderful thing is that you're still alive. You're still alive and you can try again. Being thankful and not being too hard on yourself or taking setbacks in stride absolutely does not mean you should stop being ambitious or set high goals.
In 2019,set your goals, make plans towards fulfilling them but you should enjoy every step of the way. Appreciate the little victories, pick yourself up from setbacks and ultimately, try your hardest so that even if you're not able to achieve everything, you'll be able to look back, proud of yourself that you gave it your best shot.
See you in 2019!
P.S : 2018 still has a couple of weeks left, something can still be done about that list ;)
